My name is Shaun Michels. I am a Brisbane based professional resume writer with over 20 years of experience in leadership and management. In the early days of my career, I worked with several companies in manufacturing, logistics and supply chain management. Following this, I transitioned to the legal sector for a few years.
Throughout my career, I have been heavily involved in human resources and recruitment. I got tired of seeing good people overlooked or rejected because of the quality of their resumes and cover letters. I have reviewed thousands of resumes and cover letters in my time.
Unfortunately, there are many people out there moonlighting as a professional resume writer and sadly the old saying “The Poor Man Always Pays Twice” rings true in this industry. I have been writing professional resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles for FULL-TIME for over six years.
I encourage you to review the recommendations I have received from clients. You can even send me an invite to connect on LinkedIn. Put me to work on your new professional resume. Let me help you land your dream job!
My mission is to help you get noticed by potential employers and connect with recruiters and hiring managers by writing professional resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles that work. I write resumes, I write cover letters, and I even write LinkedIn profiles, but I aim to do so much more for my clients.
In today’s competitive job market, you need the total package. I counsel and support my clients back to work. What does that mean? If you have a question about job search, human resources, recruiting, transitioning, interviewing or more, you can call and ask me anytime.
I will help you more than any other professional writer will want to. We can plan your career path. I can equip you with the tools you need to maximise your potential. You need the job search strategies that I know are successful.
My number one priority is to help you get interviews and get hired! The first step is to hire me as your professional resume writer.
As a professional resume writer, I can write professional resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles for ANYONE and achieve results. I follow the traditional five-step writing process: Prewriting, Writing, Revision, Editing and Publishing.
I start with a blank page just like everyone else (should). I do not use “cookie-cutter” resume templates. Prewriting helps me learn everything I need to know about you. I may ask you to complete a questionnaire to capture essential information. We discuss your career, the past, present and future. I need to identify everything we need before we can start. Once I have your information, I will conduct research into the job market to find current opportunities and align your skills with job market requirements.
Now I have done my research and got your information, and I can start writing the first rough draft of your new resume. You can forget about word count and grammar at this stage (although I make few errors). It is important that I write compelling content that is relevant to and optimised for the job you want. I often write at night as it eliminates potential distractions. Once the first rough draft is ready, I will forward it to you for review.
Your resume can change a great deal during this stage. When reviewing your resume, it is important that you be comfortable with the language I use. Recruiters and Hiring Managers will ultimately hold you accountable for the content in your resume. For the most part, a resume is written using sentence fragments with no personal narratives. The average resume I write has around 1500 words across three pages (optimum). This will include all the information about you and the job you want.
At this stage, you can make changes to the resume, be it additions or omissions, changes in structure, style and/or layout. The most effective way for me to revise your resume is to ask for your opinion. Do you need more vivid details to help clarify your work? Is one scene contradicting another? Take a look and give you feedback, and if something is not working for your, I will rewrite it and replace it. It is your resume. They are your accomplishments. Be proud of your career achievements.
Now I have overhauled your resume it is time to fine-tune your resume line by line. Check for repetition, clarity, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Editing is an incredibly detailed process, and it is best performed by a professional. I will read and examine your resume to remove any mistakes. I use two different software programs to re-read and re-examine your resume for any spelling and grammatical errors. Then I will re-read and re-examine your resume one final time. You should too!
Congratulations! Your new resume is ready. You are ready to apply for jobs. It is essential in completing any job application that you customise your resume and cover letter. This may sound like a daunting task, but it is not. Just use the information provided in the job advertisement to tailor your elevator pitch and skills to match. Add any missing skills and omit anything else not relevant to the application.
My passion is helping other people. I know the right job can change your life. Sometimes any job will do until your dream job comes along. We all have to pay the bills. Fortunately, I am great at what I do, and some clients say that I am one of the best in Australia. I judge my success by the success of my clients. When you lose, we lose, but when you win, we win together!
It has been my privilege to help thousands of people return to work. I would love to help you secure your next role!
